About Us

Who We Are..... Fleetwind is a club dedicated to having fun year round. In the winter, we have a lineup of Midwestern, Western and European ski trips with a few bonus social activities thrown in for good measure. In the summer, the fun doesn't stop; pool parties, canoe trips, camping and rock climbing, a Corn Roast and get-togethers. In October, we have a weekend getaway to see the Fall colors.

We celebrated our 52nd anniversary this past year and have historically been a club that meets in or near downtown Chicago. We currently meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month in the rear room of Dugan's pub, located at 128 S. Halsted Street in Chicago from 8:00pm to ??. Dugan's is right next door to Pegasus restaurant in Greek Town. There is ample parking within 1-2 blocks of the bar, or you can park in the public lots across the street for around $6. You do not need to be a member to attend our meetings.

Our members are a diverse group ranging from their twenties to their eighties and skill levels range from beginners to some of the best skiers in the Chicago area. We are blue collar, self-employed, retirees and professionals, of all backgrounds. We are singles, married and in-between. Half of our members live in Chicago, and half come from all the surrounding suburbs, with a few thrown-in from out-of-state.

What sets us apart from other clubs?

We have a few traditions, including our annual trips to Vail over Thanksgiving weekend, our Arapahoe Basin over Memorial Day weekend and the Beginner's trip to Tyrol Basin, Wisc during the 2nd weekend of Dec. We also go to Europe each year for a week of fantastic skiing in the Alps, followed by an optional trip extension to a major European city. Mostly, we go the week right after CMSC's European trip; this way members can do both trips in one vacation, while other times, we join the CMSC trip. This past January, we followed the CMSC trip to Trois Valleys, France and went to Les Arc, France, then on to Paris for a 4-day trip. The previous year, we went to Verbier, Switzerland followed by 4 days in Torremollinos, Spain.

Over the years, we've been to many fantastic places to ski that few folks have gone to, like Revelstoke & Kicking Horse in British Columbia, Canada, Red Mountain, Fernie & Panorama, also in British Columbia; Alyeska, Alaska; Mt. Bachelor, Oregon; Crystal Mountain, Washington and Andorra, Spain. Over the New Year's holiday, we've been going to Ogden, Utah to ski Powder Mountain & Snowbasin or the Summit County areas in Colorado.

So, if you're a ski lover or not, and feeling adventurous and would like to meet a friendly and fun group, come to one of our meetings, or better yet, join us on one of our fun-filled trips. For this season's trips, please go to the Ski Trips, Summer and Fall pages.

Another factor that sets us apart is that we do allow children on our trips, if accompanied by an adult
